We're experiencing a bit of climate shock more than culture shock here in Kathmandu. It's warm, humid, there's lots of oxygen in the air, and it's so green!
We had a 4 hour layover in Delhi, and it's a good thing too. As with all things in India plan for lots of extra time. It took pretty much the full 4 hours to collect our bags at the domestic terminal, take the shuttle to the international terminal, check-in and board our flight to Kathmandu. Just enough time to grab a quick snack en-route.
So we're settled into a guest house here in Boudha (about 20 mins outside of KTM proper) just a short walk from the massive stupa that seems to be the hub of activity. We landed on our feet with the internet - wifi in our room again. Always handy. Now we're on a mission to find Mexican food - there's a place in Thamel that's supposed to have "excellent mexican food". We'll report back later if this is really true or not.

Well, if it were our own kitchen or we were in Mexico like our dear friend Megan, it would be held to different standards, but here on the other side of the world, it was totally delicious. We had nachos with home made chips and salsa (no guac sadly), and enchiladas. Nichole had ice in her lemonade too, which was a real treat.

Hello Max! Thank you for your message--it is great to hear from you. The nachos did taste like tacos and the salsa was, unfortunately, not very spicy, but it was still tasty. At the restaurant where we ate the nachos, we sat under a tree that huge green fruits on it. I don't know what kind of tree it was and I was hoping that fruits didn't fall on our heads! Uncle Luke also found a huge spider in our bathroom and set him free outside on our balcony before I could get a shower. Some of the people here in Kathmandu have this crazy three-wheeled tractor thing that they drive around. I think Grandpa would laugh at these because they are so different than the ones he uses on the farm. I will get a photo of one and post it here for you and Sam to see.
How is school this year? Is it soccer season for you? What are you going to be for Halloween this year?

Hi Sam! I am sorry to hear about Furball: RIP in Furball. I am not sure where we are going next, but we are trying to decide. We are going to spend a few days poking around Kathmandu and then hopefully get out of the city too because it is a huge, busy city and we like it a little more quiet. There is one place here in the city that looks interesting and is supposed to be where a big family of monkeys live--I will add some pictures of the monkeys for you and Max to see. Did your mom tell you that we rented a motorcycle in the last city and that Uncle Luke drove us all around? All he talks about is motorcycles now!
Are you playing soccer? How are you? How is school? What are you going to be for Halloween this year?

Heather, We are at the Valley Guest House where it is quiet and dark. Holy Lord--outside the gates of Boudha, it is CRAZY compared to the stillness inside. Where did you tell me to get apple pie again? Do you want me to take any pictures to post especially for you? Where did you guys stay? Ciao, bella!
Hey Momma--thanks for the message. I know we are funny about the food, and you are right, those comforts do make it a little easier and a little nicer when you are away from home.
How is the fall starting at home? Are the leaves changing yet? Are your gorgeous gardens still blooming? Midra just sent Luke and I a photo of her gardens and they are still growing brightly.

India at the same time and her friend Karen is coming to join her, with plans for us all to meet up. Are you still planning on being in Ganeshpuri area around Christmas/New years? Hey sweetie - We stayed at the Tashi Latse, up near Zonang/Zonpa monastery (sp?) near ring road. It sound like you found a really nice spot, though. So glad!! Photos? Oh your so sweet to ask. If you are there on the full moon, get photos of the whole stupa decorated in butter lamps! Wow. If you get up to Pullahari, I'd love to see some photos. :) Also, the stupa at 4 am is so wonderful with all the old amala's selling hot tibetan bread, the sun coming up, and pigeons frickin' everywhere. That would be a nice photo. Don't mind all my recommendations and interjections... I'm just so excited and feeling very nostalgic!

Hey, its great to see a real glacier finally. And those giant mtns from the plane shots are just awe inspiring. Make the heart beat a little faster just to see them
