India: Day 3

Hello friends! After another mostly sleepless night, we are up again and showered; and Luke has once again put on his only pair of pants. We are hoping that his bag is already here this morning since the daily flights from Delhi should have arrived already. This sleeping thing is not correcting itself very quickly and it is wearing on us a bit. We have been reminding ourselves that we are only just starting day 3 in India, and that we are essential living on Niwot Ridge since the elevation here in town is 11,5000 ft (3500 m), but we need a good night's sleep. Everyone say it with me now, sssssllllleeeeeeeepppppp is goooooood.

We got some great photos of the camels that Luke is going to post in a bit. The festival is mostly for the tourists we discovered and are more of an exhibition than for the local people. It is still interesting though and we are going to watch the polo match this afternoon and try to get out to see one of the beautiful Gompas that are all around the city.

Later in the day...
We called about Luke's bag again, perhaps now the 15th time over the last few days, but he was told that they flight was full and they would be not take the bag too. They promise that tomorrow, it will be on the am JetAirways flight 1061 to Leh. Luke has been trying to be firm with them, insisting that we must have the bag, but what is there to do be done other than ask and keep calling. Our helpful hotel staff is also going to make a call for us on Luke's behalf because he said rolling his head as he spoke, "You must be very, very firm with them. They do not care. You must tell them that you want to lodge a formal complaint and then get your complaint number..." We will see if that works. I think at the point, we would nearly trade the bag for sleep. We headed out for a little while, but we are so tired and goofy that I am a concerned about falling into one of the holes on the sides of the street just because we are dodging cows, motorcycles and the rest and it is hard to juggle it all when you are so tired. We laid down for a little bit in our freshly cleaned hotel room and fell alseep. Luke did too, though he is not convinced. The wifi is up, I am again up and I am letting Luke get a little more rest, if not sleep, before we head out fo the polo match.

Now, I don't want our kind readers to get too blue about our difficult time of it right now. Traveling is like this. We know that. Sometimes knowing this makes it a bit easier to manage, but not always. We would love to get some more messages from you at home. A million-and-one thank yous to Giff (Luke's pa) and Heather for the daily notes--it is so, so good to see those messages. We are using a new blog on this trip and didn't realize that our comments setting was initially off, so if you tried to leave a message before, but couldn't, please try again.
