The Best Day So Far

It is late here, 12:30am and I am pooped. We will write more tomorrow, but for now, so you have a little something to tide you over, we had a great day. The best day yet. We rented a motorcycle and waved at folks until our arms came loose. We smiled back at smiling faces until I was laughing and crying at the same time. It was just that good. We are planning on getting up in about 6 hours to ride the bike to a monastery in a nearby village. The monks have morning puja, but allow guests to sit in on it. I love to pray with others, Luke does too, and it makes no difference to us if we are all saying different prayers. One thing we read is that we need to be very quiet though, otherwise the rascally, young monks get distracted. The little monks are so gorgeous with their round, shaved heads and maroon robes, but they are very naughty and mischievous. It is quite a delightful combination! We move hotels tomorrow for one night and I think we found the place today when we were out on the bike. It is a treasure of a house, the home of a Ladakhi man and his Swiss wife. We told Christina (the hostess) that we had avocado in Leh and then we all started in about guacamole, so we may get a chance to make dinner with them tomorrow. Cross your fingers that we can find corn tortillas *wink*

Hi there! Anna Bantz here! I was one of the original folks that tried to comment but, alas, the comments were turned off...but I have been following you guys from the start!

It all looks so amazing. Here's to good nights of sleep, a bounty of good food, traveling light, making new friends, and discovery. :)

Keep up the blogging! Travel safe!

love,
-Anna Bantz

Some real mountains....very cool. It even looks like the Himalayas. And the food doesn't look halve bad either. How are you holding up to the long time at high altitude?

Did you hear about this guy Don Gorske? He has eaten 23,000 BigMac burgers! A couple of 'em everyday since 1972. You'd think he was some big fat slob, but he is just a tall skinny prison gaurd. He eats 'em cause he likes 'em!

Now that is a story worth learning from: A life lived in satisfaction, not fear.

So, while I'm sitting here, drawing ski parts on my computer screen, an old spoken word recording I've got by Ira Cohen came on (Kings with Straw Mats) and I immediately thought of you guys in India, and wish I was there too.

Keep posting, words and pics - so those of us at our desk jobs can travel vicariously thru you guys (I'm not trying to sound too jealous....). Have a great time!

I've been following your trip so far and it looks absolutely spectacular! Of course, I'm sad that you weren't in Colorado this week since Dave and I finally made it there : (
Anyway, best wishes on the rest of your journey and let me know if you find any cute baby clothes along the way. We'll need some around January 7th. I wanted to tell you before you left, but we never connected. Thanks for the sweet note! Hugs to you and Luke.

Anna--I love the wedding photos. Oh, my! You were stunning and you both just looked so happy. I love that! Thanks for tagging along and for your safe wishes for our travels.

Hey Giff, We are doing better and better each day with the elevation. Luke was always fine, me getting better. Even I can hoof it around town and up hills with my backpack on now. The food has been good, some gurgles from the belly, but tasty nonetheless.

Thanks Obie--living the life you want is always the lesson, that is for sure.

pbs--we got all sorts of tbj action coming your way. watch for it.

Hey Ken--K2 needs to bring you guys out to ski and test in India. If you write me into the budget and I will be your chai girl!

Mindy--We are so sad to have missed your visit. And we are so happy to hear about your sweet news--you guys are going to be so good at being a mom and a dad. It makes me a little teary-eyed... I am also glad you like the note that I mailed before leaving; that is my favorite postcard. I was glad to share it with you.
